Scramjets

It does not seem very long until we start using scramjets as a replacement for standard jets. In the last year there have been about three major scramjet tests. The most recent test was in Australia on March 25, 2006. Scramjets have the ability to reach speeds around mach 10. This is almost equal to about ten times the speed of sound. The scramjet that launced this weekend was intended to only reach speeds of about 5,000 miles per hour. The engines for these jets were designed to operate without any rotating parts to propel it through the air.
