Even though I have A MacBook Pro which has the play controles that can be used for iTunes, I still find myself going to iTunes and click next to see what is playing or to have better control. Freeware You Control:tunes allows you to get all the features of a paid app for free.
Simply just register to receive a free serial number and you will have access to your iTunes in your toolbar as well as an optional HUD display message when each song begins. I have seen similar apps in the downloads section from Apple, but this is by far the best, and the only uncrippled free one.
